The range of lenses available for the Sony E-Mount system is pure overkill. In terms of choice, no other system comes close. Even if you solely focus on autofocus lenses, the total number racks up to well well over 300. Good news, when it comes to strong competition. Bad news, for less confident buyers at least, when it comes to making buying decisions.
The situation goes back to a decision that Sony made in 2011. Back then, Sony released the technical specifications of its E-Mount system, thus enabling third-party manufacturers to produce lenses for it. The first third-party manufacturers that delivered were Tamron and Zeiss. Today, the market is literally flooded by Chinese makers who, like Viltrox for example, have impressed with cost-effective but nonetheless solid products.
