Five decades after forming, this American disco and funk band is still rocking. Formed in 1976 by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, Chic quickly rose to fame during the Studio 54 era. Their early hits “Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah),” “Le Freak,” and “Good Times” are among the most widely aired disco classics and helped shape dance music worldwide. Chic’s music is an eclectic blend of disco, pop, R&B, and rock characterized by memorable grooves.
Beyond their own recordings, Rodgers and Edwards wrote and produced major hits for artists such as Sister Sledge (“We Are Family”), Diana Ross (“I’m Coming Out,” “Upside Down”), and many others, thus cementing their influence across genres. After Chic disbanded in 1983, Nile Rodgers continued producing and collaborating with artists such as David Bowie, Madonna, Daft Punk, and Beyoncé. He has earned multiple Grammy Awards.
In recent years, Nile Rodgers & Chic experienced a resurgence, releasing their first new album in 26 years, “It’s About Time” in 2023. They remain active and tour extensively worldwide. Their 2025 tour includes dates across Europe, Japan, and the Americas, with performances at festivals such as Glastonbury and Blenheim’s Nocturne Live.
